The Pros and Cons of Aluminum Oxide For Abrasive Blasting
October 28, 2020Safety Tips for Storing Chemical Solvents
March 19, 2021Of the numerous industrial cleaning methods that companies utilize, vapor degreasing is one of the most popular. It is also one of the most effective techniques, finding use in many industrial manufacturing fields. Understanding how this process works will help you and your facility choose the right kind of vapor degreasing equipment, if it is a process that best suits your field, and solvents, the chemicals that work hand in hand in vapor degreasing systems.
How Vapor Degreasing Works
There are two steps to vapor degreasing and they take place in the two respective components of the vapor degreasing machine. In the boil sump, a chemical solvent is heated to boil and the vapor rises up to cover the parts being cleaned. The vapor attaches itself to the part and, more importantly, the grease and grime on it. In the next step, the vapor is cooled, thus allowing it to fall off with the grease attached to it, at a molecular level. Some types of vapor degreasers have an additional cleaning step that dumps the parts into the solvent again and ultrasonic is applied to them, but this is not necessary for every kind of degreasing process.
The Usage and Benefits of Vapor Degreasing
Due to the variance in chemical solvents that can be used in vapor degreasing, this process has found its place in almost every manufacturing industry, including aviation, automotive, electronics, jewelry, aerospace, and medical. Vapor degreasing is a cost-effective option partially due to the fact that the equipment is inexpensive, as well as the solvents used in it. Moreover, degreasing solvents can often be recycled and used many times over, making it both cost effective in that way and good for the environment. This environmental benefit can be boosted further by using solvents that are designed to be more “green” and can be more safely disposed of when eventually used up.
